Case Study #53: EPDM roof coating

Diagnosis:

This 5 year old EPDM roof was experiencing accelerated aging due to exposure and weathering in southern Florida.

The customer wanted to extend the service life of this 89,000 square foot roof and take advantage of the Florida Power and Light cool roof rebate program.  Energy Seal Coaitngs EPDM roofing system was specified as a Florida approved roof   coating system.

Results:

Florida Power & Light will contribute $0.45 per square foot toward the total job price upon  passing final inspection. The approximate job size is 89,000 square feet generating a rebate of $40,000. Should the customer and their tax advisors deem the expenditure a non-capital item the entire cost may be expensed in the year for income tax purposes.  Using a federal tax rate of 35% and a state tax rate of 5.5% the resulting tax savings equates to approximately $45,000.  The building owner could also achieve a savings of as much as 15% utility savings on cooling the facility. The application of the Energy Seal Coatings roof coating system will also extend the service life of the roof.
